ACTIVITY DURING WWII

SERVED WITH THE 577TH BOMBARDMENT SQUADRON (HEAVY), 392ND BOMB GROUP, U.S. 8TH AIR FORCE IN WENDLING, ENGLAND AS A B-24 BOMBER CO-PILOT OF 'TRIPS DAILY'. WHILE RETURNING FROM HIS 18TH BOMBING MISSION ON DECEMBER 2ND, 1944 WHICH TARGETED BINGEN, GERMANY, THE PLANE WAS SHOT DOWN. THREE CREW MEMBERS WERE KILLED AND HE WAS CAPTURED BY THE GERMANS. HE REMAINED A PRISONER OF WAR AT STALAG LUFT 1 IN BARTH, GERMANY FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE WAR. MEDALS AND HONORS: THE EUROPEAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH TWO BATTLE STARS, THE AMERICAN AREA MEDAL AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL.
