WEST POINT CLASS OF 1940. ASSIGNED TO BATTERY C, 91ST COAST ARTILLERY (PHILIPPINE SCOUT) ON CORREGIDOR, PHILIPPINE ISLANDS (AS EXECUTIVE OFFICER). SERVED INITIALLY AS AN ANTI-AIRCRAFT ARTILLERY BATTERY ON FORT WINT IN SUBIC BAY. SHOT DOWN ONE ENEMY PLANE. MOVED TO BATAAN ON DECEMBER 25, 1941 TO APRIL 9, 1941. SHOT DOWN 14 MORE ENEMY PLANES. AWARDED THE PURPLE HEART FOR WOUNDS RECEIVED ON THE FALL OF BATAAN. MOVED TO CORREGIDOR, MANNED BATTERIES MORRISON AND GRUBBS TO CONTEND WITH ENEMY ARTILLERY AND AIR ATTACKS. ALSO AWARDED THE SILVER STAR AND 2 BRONZE STARS. WAS A POW FROM MAY 7, 1941 TO DECEMBER 7, 1944 AT BILIBID AND CABANATUAN PRISON CAMPS ON LUZON.
