ACTIVITY DURING WWII

SURVIVOR OF THE BATAAN DEATH MARCH. HIS EXAMPLE INSPIRED MANY TO DRAW ON THEIR ALMOST SUPERHUMAN WILLPOWER TO OVERCOME THE PANGS OF HUNGER, THE DYSENTERY, THE MAGGOTS AND THE LICE, NOT TO MENTION THE OUTRIGHT PHYSICAL BRUTALITY OF THEIR CAPTORS. AS A RESULT MANY MORE THAN ANTICIPATED WERE ABLE TO COME HOME TO FREEDOM. HE WAS DECORATED BY GENERAL JONATHAN WAINWRIGHT WITH THE DISTINGUISHED SERVICE CROSS.
