ACTIVITY DURING WWII

SERVED AS A COLONEL AND A PILOT OF A P-47 FIGHTER AND AS COMMANDING OFFICER OF THE 362ND FIGHTER GROUP, 9TH AIR FORCE IN AERIAL COMBAT AGAINST ENEMY FORCES IN THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS IN 1944. HE FLEW 85 COMBAT MISSIONS, SHOOTING DOWN FIVE ENEMY AIRCRAFT. HE SPENT A COUPLE MONTHS OF 1944 AS A PRISONER OF WAR IN A HOSPITAL IN PARIS WHERE HE WAS LIBERATED AND THEN RETURNED TO AMERICA FOR MORE TREATMENTS. AWARDED THE DISTINGUISHED SERVICE CROSS, THE SILVER STAR, AND THE DISTINGUISHED FLYING CROSS, AND PRISONER OF WAR MEDAL.
